What do you like most about PR? The effects that can be created by it. PR is one of the most overlooked ingredients for company success, and I think that is because sometimes it appears to be nebulous and hard to reduce down to tangibles. But, once someone understands what it can do for a company, he is hooked. What is the secret to your success? Delivering what is promised. We give clients what they expect, and more. After all, PR is a service business, so that is what we do, service the client! One of our clients said it best, In a world of hype and empty promises, The Catalyst Group is truly among those rare individuals who deliver on their promises and commitments. How did you get into the PR biz? I was working in the financial advertising business and found it to be too commercial. I realized that it was much more powerful for a company to receive editorial/third party endorsements from the media, rather than the company telling its story through ads. Dont get me wrong, advertising is a key component to any company, but it cannot be a stand alone for a companys image. What is your motto? You cant change what happened yesterdaylive now and for the future. Too many people spend too much time worrying about what happened. Although you can learn from mistakes, you cant change them, so look ahead. What is your biggest PR pet peeve? The tarnished reputation that PR has in general. Most people I talk to have some kind of PR horror story and it bothers me that these type of experiences have soured a lot of people on PR firms. What is the last book you read? The Art of War. I read this book years ago but it is so filled with insight into strategy and success that I picked it up again. Favorite CD? Stevie Ray Vaughns Greatest Hits. He is an awesome guitarist. If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be? Benjamin Graham, author of The Intelligent Investor. I find his financial information very intriguing. What do friends say is you best characteristic? Ability to get along with most anyone. I genuinely enjoy people and like to find the positives in personalities. What is the funniest thing you have heard lately? That my wife actually checked Contemporary Orthodontics out at the libraryand then read it. People called to talk to her (at home), and I had to tell them that she wasnt available because she was reading the textbook that future orthodontists studyyou can imagine the reaction to that one. |
